Dunk Island or Ulysses Butterfly
Indonesia, P.N.G., Australia
7" x 9" black, shadow box frame
This is one of the most popular Australasian butterflies. The male is brighter with its iridescent colours in strong contrast to the black background colour. The female is more subdued, but both sexes have black tails and irregularly scalloped hindwings. Males are always curious about blue objects, even artificial ones, and this can be used to draw them closer for observation purposes.
