Seahorses increasingly are being farm bred for a variety of reasons. Firstly they are cultured for the live aquariaum trade, with some species proving to be hardy to keep. Another useful purpose for seahorses is in Chinese medicine. They are dried, ground up and offered as a powder to sufferers of liver complaints. Unfortunately, their widespead disappearance has been due to trawling; seahorses and many other species are a discard of trawling.
